My lyrics are dark because my reality has been dark. My sound stays in the light. I want people to know that the light is always attainable."

Danielle Ponder transcends musical genres with a blast of deep, powerful soul. And according to Ponder, soul is more than a sound. “Soul music is something you feel,” she says. “It gives you goose bumps.”

The result of her focus and dedication is a tone that is both enchanting and seductive along with a riveting, honest stage presence. It is this voice that has helped her secure gigs opening up for powerhouses such as George Clinton, Ledisi and The Roots.  She has also completed two successful European tours. Boyd Kletter of Bourbon Street Blues Club in Amsterdam said "Danielle shines bright both on and off the stage. She truly is a star!"

Beyond Danielle's musical talent, she was also a public defender who worked at the Monroe County Public Defender’s office.  A native of New York she is also a Professor in the Department of African American studies at SUNY Brockport, where she teaches Legal Rights of the Disadvantaged.

Danielle has dedicated the past 15 years to organizing and speaking up for marginalized communities. She has worked on issues such as education funding, women's rights, and has spent the past 8 years working for criminal justice reform. In 2017 she created the Multi-Media show For the Love of Justice, where she shines light on our criminal justice system through powerful lyrics and thought provoking visuals.

KAYLA DIAMOND

1

SINGER, SONGWRITER, PRODUCER

Kayla Diamond feels precisely who she is when she’s behind a piano. Or playing a guitar. Or sitting at her computer talking to producers about music composition, or even teaching herself how to produce songs. After over a year of reflective consideration of who she wants to be, what music she wants to make, the pop swerve she gave us on her Dirty Laundry EP has now given way for the singer-songwriter to emerge, a moniker more authentic for Diamond to wear.

Since winning the It’s Your Shot Contest in 2015 for the track “Crazy,” Diamond has gone through a winding road of sound, writing and performing pop and electronic hits. Dirty Laundry, she says, was an act of therapy, a record she needed to get out. “I was going through a breakup. I needed to get it out of the way,” she says. What comes next is a transformation that has happened with all great pop artists; understanding a moment or a feeling, and seeing it through to the next iteration of their artistry. Diamond has been on a journey of unravelling and rediscovery that’s led to immense sonic and personal growth.

Diamond’s newest work, written over the past year, and produced in quarantine, still traverses traditional pop song pathways. Instead of adding electronic flourishes and elaborate production, Diamond has stripped down each track to its essential elements, letting her vulnerability shine through composition and lyrics.

On “always been you,” Diamond’s love ballad, her heart is so openly and brazenly on her sleeve. Diamond captures a feeling so precisely on “always,” that yearning for love at all costs, and it is how she thrives as a writer and performer. She delicately sings about wanting to be loved only by one person and the all-consuming heat and desire of it. While thinking of the track, she said of it, “I want a song that feels this way. In my head, I thought ‘what's a good beat?’” That sonic snapshot, while so personal to her love of her fiancée, is universal in its totality.

It is a challenge to understand yourself amid the clutter of the world. Even one second of clarity feels like it can be taken away. But this, in essence, is what being a person and an artist is truly all about: growth. The resolve and refusal to remain a certain way, to be static, comes at a risk but perhaps has the best payoff possible when it comes true. Dirty Laundry is foundational to Diamond’s musical past, present and future. But what comes after Diamond hit the reset button on her own artistry is a thrilling adventure to follow.

SOL ESCOBAR

SINGER/SONGWRITER, COMPOSER, PRODUCER

After a career as singer and musical theatre actress, mainly in Colombia, Sol Escobar makes a great leap in her international career as singer songwriter, composer and music producer with La Dama Oscura, an album all written and directed by her.

As in a film by David Lynch, Tarantino or Wong Kar Wai, her new work tells stories about vampire love, betrayed ghosts, disaffection and disenchantment of other lives that cross through space and time. The music transports us to a desert inhabited by cowboys, to castles in northern Europe or to the canteens of Buenos Aires, Mexico or Paris.

The theatricality of tango, the epic depth of popular music and the dramatic tone of the ranchera, come together to unite stories around a very personal and unique alter ego: La Dama Oscura (The Dark Lady).

An album set of 7 original songs that show the vocal potential of this singer and her marked talent for the composition of boleros, rancheras and modern tangos. Sol directs the musical production towards a very personal concept and the union of different styles in one, his own, fresh and elegant. In their songs we can hear a ranchera melody, followed by a surf guitar; a powerful chorus of lyrical voices, followed by a bartender piano; tango becomes blues, bolero becomes rock and Latin arrangements becomes Nordic folk music.
